It is undeniable that for women, their izzat is valued more than their freedom. So women are forced to adjust to an abusive marriage and preserve the name and security rather than losing all by walking out of the marriage.Â
Even if more women take birth and step into the world, their birth won’t matter if they are reduced into just another subject of rape culture.
As per reports, even in the fourth survey of NFHS (2015-2016), 52 per cent of women respondents felt it reasonable for the husband to hit his wife. Only 42 per cent had agreed to the same.
As per the report, the gender ration at birth for children born in the last five years is still 929 which suggests that preference for male child and macabre practices like female feticide still persists.
The NFHS 5 provides information on population, health and nutrition for India in a state/union territory wise manner. The fifth survey was conducted between 2019 and 2021 in two phases.
