On May 7, Patna’s Madhumita Sharma joined Google’s Switzerland office as the technical solution engineer, reported TOI. The job comes with an annual package of Rs 1 crore. Madhumita was hired after clearing seven rounds of interview which were held between November last year and January this year.

“I realised that I still have to learn a lot”

Her father, Kumar Satyendra Sharma, is the RPF’s assistant security commissioner (Sonepur) and mother, Chinta Devi is a homemaker. Madhumita’s dream was to work for a big company. Speaking with TOI, Madhumita said that she always kept a tab on the placements in IT sector. In 2017, she applied for many companies in India and abroad. She also appeared for the online test conducted by four companies.

“I got an appointment letter from Amazon India with an annual package of Rs 24 lakh, Mercedes with Rs 23 lakh and Microsoft with Rs 18 lakh. But I didn’t join any of these companies because I was sure to qualify for Google. After clearing seven interviews, they selected me in February this year,” Madhumita told TOI over the phone from Zurich.

The girl is an alumni of DAV Public School, Valmi, in Patna. She scored 86% in Class X, 88% in Class XII and qualified the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) in 2010. She studied BTech (IT) at Arya College of Engineering, Jaipur. Madhumita even worked with Cognizant and two other companies in Bangalore.

She shared her first day experience at Google and said, “It was enriching. I realised that I still have to learn a lot.”

Another girl who did the country proud

In 2015, a Jaipur-born girl bagged a lucrative job offer from social networking company Facebook. Astha Agarwal, an IIT-Bombay student, went to Facebook Headquarters in California for a summer internship. After the internship, she got the offer to work for FB as a Software Engineer.
