23-year-old Chinki won both team and individual golds. She said, “I am waiting for the day I win medals for the country in the Olympics. That’s my dream.”Â
The team of Sawant and Rajput won the gold medal after beating Ukraine’s Anna Ilina and Serhiy Kulish in a closely-fought match.
Indian shooters have so far won 20 medals in the competition. Leading the medal tally, India has also pocketed six silver medals and five bronze beside the nine gold medal victories.
All three medal holders have already bagged their quotas for the Tokyo Olympics, slated to be held from July 23 this year.
Ganemat Sekhon said, “After the event today I came to know that it’s a historic medal and I was very excited, I was working towards this and my aim was to come to the final for the first time in seniors and go for the medal.”
With this win, Elavenil Valarivan is now World No. 1 in the 10m Air Rifle events.
India’s Yashaswini Singh Deswal and Manu Bhaker won the gold and silver medals respectively in the ISSF World Cup women’s 10m Air Pistol Event.
The 20-year-old from Tamil Nadu had earlier won gold medals at ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney and Suhl in 2018.
With the Olympic quota in, Yashaswini looks forward to maintain her domestic ranking till the team for the Tokyo Games is announced.
