Who Is Rahi Sarnobat? Rahi Sarnobat, is a Pistol shooter who had made the country proud by clinching Gold in the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup on Monday. She had a podium finish in the Women's 20m Pistol event of the championship.

Olympic-bound Sarnobat had perfect scores in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth series which added up to her final score of 39 after qualifying second with a total of 591. After Sarnobat, finishing second was France's Mathilde Lamolle with a score of 31 in the finals. Manu Bhaker landed in the seventh position in the same event.

The Women's Shooting team for the women's 10m air pistol won bronze with Sarnobat, Bhaker and Yashaswini Deswal on the team.

Who is Rahi Sarnobat?

  • Rahi Jeevan Sarnobat is a 30-year-old athlete who hails from Kolhapur, Maharashtra. She was introduced to the training of firearms during her NCC training in college.
  • Due to the inadequate facilities in Kolhapur for training in firearms, she moved to Mumbai for pursuing her passion. Sarnobat currently plays from the Chattrapati Shivaji Sports Complex, Pune.
  • Sarnobat holds the record to be India's first pistol shooter to win a gold medal in the World Cup in the  25m pistol event in the ISSF World Cup in Changwon.
  • In the same event, she won Gold in the 2014 Commonwealth Games held at Glasgow. Previously, Sarnobat had got two Gold medals in the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
  • In the 2014 Asian Games, Sarnobat teamed up with Anisa Sayyed and Heena Sidhu to win a Bronze.
  • Due to an elbow injury after meeting with an incident in 2015, Sarnobat took two full years to heal and get back to the sport. German coach Munkhbayar Dorjsuren helped her gain physical and mental strength after she joined the Indian national team.
  • Sarnobat qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after finishing first in the Munich World Cup event in 2019.
