The Makati city prosecutor office had arrested 11 suspects in the death and alleged rape case, but three of them were freed after conflicting statements of the suspects being sexually interested in men emerged. Benedicto Malcontento, Prosecutor General of Makati City said, "The pieces of evidence submitted till date are insufficient to establish whether she was sexually assaulted or raped. The flight attendant’s mother Sharon Dacera had also appealed to Philippines’ President Rodrigo Duterte for intervention, saying her daughter had been “treated like a pig” in the “barbaric” crime. In a television&feature=emb_title"> interview, Sharon said that she strongly believes that her daughter did not die of “ruptured aortic aneurysm,” as the 23-Year-Old was “healthy.”  “For me, my daughter was raped,” said Sharon. “As a mother, I can feel the pain Christine must have suffered but my daughter can no longer speak for herself as she is dead.”

“I know my daughter is not like that. Someone has taken advantage of her kindness and provincial ways. Christine trusted her friends so much, they should not have betrayed her” Dacera’s mother said further as she believed her friends could have saved her daughter.

The family is also preparing for a second autopsy after claiming that the first one was incomplete.
