Wondering where to watch Thalaivii? The Kangana Ranaut starrer was slated to release on April 23 this year. However, it got postponed due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. This multilingual biopic is based on the life of the former Chief  Minister of Tamil Nadu, late Jayalalithaa. It is directed by AL Vijay and produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri.

Due to its delayed release and rumours of an OTT premiere, there is much confusion among fans over where can they watch Ranaut’s ambitious biopic.

Where to watch Thalaivii?

Since the release date of Thalaivii got delayed, it was expected that like many other movies, this movie too will skip a theatrical release. However, Ranaut took to her Instagram handle to clear the confusion. She shared a message which said that PVR’s decision to screen the Tamil and Telugu versions of the movie is a ray of hope for team Thalaivii as well as all movie goers. She added, “I hope with talks, and a passion for the Theatrical experience, we can come together to find a solution so that the Hindi version can also find love and appreciation on the big screen.” The biographical drama will be hitting the big screens on Sep 10, 2021.

Will Thalaivii have an OTT release?

In June this year, Ranaut said that Thalaivii‘s digital rights lie with Amazon (Tamil) and Netflix (Hindi). None of the platforms can stream the movie individually before releases in the theatres. She further said that the movie deserved a theatrical release and the makers were determined to take strict actions against anyone spreading fake news about its OTT release. Therefore, we can only hope to watch Thalaivii on OTT platforms after it releases in cinema halls.

In the movie, Ranaut will be essaying the role of the late politician, J. Jayalalithaa. It revolves around the ascension of the actor-turned politician and the challenges she faced in her personal and political career. The feature film also stars Arvind Swamy, Bhagyashree, Samuthirakani and Shamna Kasim among others in key roles
