Specially-Abled woman attacked in Vijayawada: A 50-year-old specially-abled woman from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh alleged that four men, suspected to be her neighbours, attacked and sexually assaulted her. A police complaint in the case has been filed at Nunna police station in Vijayawada. The police have formed a search party to catch hold of the four accused.
All the four accused are reportedly below the age of 25 and were neighbours of the survivor. According to the Circle Inspector (CI) of Nunna K Haneesh, the woman was injured and the household items at her place were damaged. So far, the police stated that this matched with the survivor's claims about the alleged attack. However, they are still unsure if it is a case of sexual assault too.
The men were allegedly smoking weed in her backyard and Haneesh stated that the survivor pelted stones at the four accused. "In a fit of rage, they might have attacked her," Haneesh said.

To make sure that the case involved sexual assault or not, the survivor has been sent to Vijayawada GGH for medical tests by the police investigating the incident.
Crime Against Women In Andhra Pradesh
- On August 15 last year, an engineering student from Amartaluru village in the Guntur district of Andra Pradesh was stabbed to death in broad daylight. The deceased was returning from her college after the Independence Day celebration. She was identified as Nallapu Ramya. It started with an argument between Ramya and Krishna, allegedly her boyfriend, and then it escalated to Krishna stabbing her six times in the throat and stomach. The deceased was taken to the Government General Hospital in Guntur but she was declared dead by the doctors there. CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy later announced an ex gratia payment of rupees ten lakh to the deceased's family. Read more about the case here.
- In August the same year, an 18-year-old was allegedly killed and cremated by her parents in Mutluru area of the Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh. She was reportedly involved romantically with a man from another caste and got married despite her parent's objection. The police received the tip on the case from the locals there and the Village Revenue Officer (VRO) filed the complaint with local police. The parents of the deceased were questioned about the cremation and the members alleged that the deceased had self-immolated and died. Read more about it here.
- A 15-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and killed at Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy Residential High School on August 19, 2017. A five-member committee was set up to investigate the case and stated that the girl was sexually assaulted before the murder. However, later the police booked the school correspondent Janardhan Reddy and his sons only for abatement to suicide, while the charges of child sexual abuse and destruction of property were dropped.
