The woman's hastily cremated body was found charred in an isolated place. The woman was reportedly romantically involved with a man who was from another caste. They reportedly got married despite the parent's objection to the alliance.

Amidst the rumours of the murder, the police received a tip from the locals and the Village Revenue Officer (VRO) filed a complaint with the local police seeking a probe. The Police visited the village and registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC (Unnatural Death). According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Prashanthi, an investigation is underway and a clues team has been roped in to speed up the probe. The News Minute reported that the parents of the deceased girl are being questioned about why they cremated her so hurriedly.

The family members have claimed she died of self immolation.

The police have sent the remains of the girl to Guntur Government General Hospital for post-mortem.

The DySP said, "The parents are saying that the deceased died by suicide as she was unable to bear a long-standing stomach ache. They have also claimed that they attempted to rescue her after being alerted by neighbours, who saw flames and fog."

Recently, in Delhi a nine-year-old Dalit girl, who had reportedly gone to the Delhi Cantt crematorium to get cold water, was allegedly gangraped and murdered. Her parents work as ragpickers. She was forcibly cremated thereafter, with her mother comprehending the death. The priest at the crematorium and three other accused have been arrested.
