Andhra Girl Stabbed: On Independence Day, an Engineering student from Andhra Pradesh was stabbed to death in broad daylight. The deceased has been identified as Nallapu Ramya, a resident of Amartaluru village in the Guntur district of the state. The incident was captured on a CCTV camera. The police have arrested the accused identified as Kunchala Sasi Krishna.

  1. A 20-year old third-year Engineering student Nallapu Ramya was stabbed to death on Aug 15, 2021 on Nadi Road, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. The student was returning home after attending an Independence Day function which was held at her college.
  2. It started with an argument between Ramya and Krishna, who was supposedly her boyfriend. This caught the attention of the people present at the roadside eatery. However, it soon took an ugly turn. The attacker stabbed her six times on the throat and stomach. This lead to her death on the spot.
  3. As the onlookers watched, the assailant fled leaving the girl to die. She was taken to Guntur's Government General Hospital but the doctors declared her to be dead.
  4. The two reportedly met around six months ago on a social media platform. Krishna suspected Ramya to be having an affair. He is now in the custody of the police. The State Director General of Police (DGP), DG Sawang said in a release that the local people provided them with crucial clues which led to the arrest of the accused. The CCTV camera footage also helped us identify him.
  5. The incident left the entire district in shock. There have been demands of stringent punishment for the attacker.
  6. It also created a political row on women safety. The opposition attacked Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to the victim's kin. He further directed the concerned officials to take care of her family.
  7. Mekathoti Sucharitha, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister and V Padma, the state's women commission chairman, reached the hospital to enquire about the incident with the police and the girl's family.
  8. MLC Nara Lokesh is shocked that the ghastly murder took place around the same time when CM Reddy was speaking eloquently on the Disha Act and women safety in his Independence Day speech.
  9. Lokesh further added that the life of yet another aspiring girl came to an abrupt end because of the failure of the Disha Act and the Government.
  10. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) criticised the law and order situation in Andhra Pradesh.
