Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh approached the Delhi High Court against her trial by media in the drug probe related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case. On Thursday, Justice Navin Chawla asked the Centre to treat Rakul Preet Singh’s plea as a representation and decide on it before the next court hearing on October 15.
Singh’s lawyer, Advocate Aman Hingorani, submitted a plea to the court which said that media reports concerning the actress violate I&B Ministry guidelines. As per ANI, the Delhi HC has issued directives to the Centre as well as news organisations like Prasar Bharati, News Broadcasters Association, and Press Council of India. The court said, “… Consider Rakul Preet Singh’s plea as a representation and expeditiously decide it including any interim directions that ought to be issued.”

Legal Intervention Against Media Trial
It was reported a few days ago that Rhea Chakraborty has named Singh in her statement to the Narcotics Control Board (NCB). However, she retracted the statement later. Singh’s plea said that the media continues to link her to the drug probe despite the retraction.
The Delhi HC said it hoped that media houses would show restraint in their reports, and recommended that they should “abide by the cable TV regulations, program code and various guidelines.” The high court also told media to follow “statutory and self regulatory” regulations, emphasising upon careful reporting concerning the petitioner, Rakul Preet Singh.
Delhi HC also noted that a universal message will be sent even if action is taken against one contravening channel.

Apart from Singh, Chakraborty had also named Sara Ali Khan and designer Simone Khambatta. Elaborating on the same, the deputy director of NCB, KPS Malhotra, said in a statement, “Their names have surfaced but right now we can’t comment on the further course of action.”
