You Cannot Tarnish The Image Of Bollywood: Hema Malini Backs Jaya Bachchan
Veteran actor and politician Hema Malini spoke up in defence of Bollywood, a day after Samajwadi Party MP (Member of Parliament) Jaya Bachchan’s speech in Rajya Sabha yesterday. Bachchan called out the conspiracy to defame the film industry in her speech. Backing the veteran actor, Malini said, “You can not tarnish the image of Bollywood.”
Commenting on the Sushant Singh Rajput death case and the outrage against Bollywood over alleged drug abuse and practices such as nepotism, Jaya Bachchan said that the fraternity’s people have always played their part in giving back to society and helped governments.
Agreeing with her statement, Hema Malini, a BJP MP, said, “These are small instances, like a stain on a piece of cloth we must wash it away. I have received a lot of love from this industry, how can I watch anyone say anything bad about it?” Hindustan Times reported. She told NDTV, “Bollywood is a beautiful and creative world. It is an art and culture industry. I have gained name fame and respect from this industry.”
On Tuesday, Jaya Bachchan made some strong remarks on BJP MP Ravi Kishan’s “drug addiction in film industry” allegation. Objecting to the portrayal of the film industry as a “gutter”, she said, “People in the entertainment industry are being flogged by social media. People who made their names in the industry have called it a gutter. I completely disagree. I hope that the government tells such people not to use this kind of language,” she said, according to ANI.
What did Ravi Kishan say?
Amidst various debates that followed the Rajput’s death, Ravi Kishan, a Bhojpuri actor, made a statement on Monday saying, “Drug addiction is in the film industry too. Several people have been apprehended. The NCB has been doing very good work. I urge the central government to take strict action against the culprits soon. Give them a befitting punishment and bring an end to this conspiracy by neighbouring countries.”
Bachchan, in her speech, countered Kishan’s comments, “Just because of a few people, you cannot tarnish the whole industry… I was really embarrassed and ashamed that yesterday one our members in the Lok Sabha, who is from the industry, spoke against the film industry. Jis thaali me khaate hain usi me chched karte hain.”
Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut slammed Bachchan for her statement, asking what if it was her own children who were being targeted in the film industry. She asked the politician would she have felt the same way then.
Jaya Bachchan receives support from Bollywood
Along with Malini’s endorsement, Bachchan also received support from other members of the fraternity. “This is what spine looks like,” filmmaker Anubhav Sinha tweeted on Tuesday.

Pink and Thappad star Taapsee Pannu also tweeted in Bachchan’s support. “For we have always stood by the initiatives, causes and awareness campaigns. It’s time for payback. Hitting the nail on its head and how! Yet again a woman from the industry spoke up #Respect,” she wrote.
Dia Mirza tweeted:
Jayaji is absolutely right. So grateful that she spoke up for our industry. We are always committed to contribute towards social upliftment and social good. The industry has always helped governments. This vilification of our film industry is unjust and condemnable.
