Actor Payal Ghosh joined the Republican Party of India (Athawale) today and was appointed as vice-president of the party’s woman’s wing. Ghosh, who was in news last month for levying allegations of harassment against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, joined RPI (A) in Mumbai. The party is led by Union Minister Ramdas Athawale.

“I thank her for joining the party and I welcome her,” said the Union Minister, who was present to welcome Ghosh into RPI (A).

In September this year, Ghosh had accused Kashyap of allegedly forcing himself on her. In response to her allegations, Kashyap wrote in a tweet, “It took you so long to make an attempt to silence me. Never mind… in a bid to silence me, you have dragged another woman in this, despite being a woman. Please stick to the limits, Madame. All I want to say is all allegations are baseless.”

He said it was okay and all the actresses who worked with him such as Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadha, Mahi Gill, they are just a call away.”

On September 23, Payal Ghosh filed a complaint against the filmmaker at Versova police station, following which, an FIR was registered against him.

On October 6, it was reported that Chadha has filed a defamation suit against Ghosh worth 1.1 crore rupees. On October 15, the suit was disposed by the Bombay High Court, after Payal Ghosh submitted an “unconditional apology” to Chadha.
