Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, daughter Ella-Grace and sons Hadrien and Xavier arrived at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on February 17, 2018.

“It’s wonderful to have the whole family with me this week. I’m glad that my kids get to experience this beautiful country while their dad is hard at work. It’s actually quite fitting,” said Trudeau, speaking to reporters at his first media availability of the trip.

The last time Trudeau visited India was in 1983 with his father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, on an official trip as prime minister.

“It’s nice to come full circle and have them here with me now,” Trudeau said.

The visit is aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in key areas of mutual interest trade and investment, a statement from External Affairs Ministry said. Cooperation in security and counter-terrorism, as well as the exchange of views on global and regional issues of mutual interest, will also form important components of the visit, it read.
