BJD MP Anubhav Mohanty Appears Before Women's Commission Over Domestic Violence Charge

MP Anubhav Mohanty appeared before the Odisha State Commission for Women on Tuesday related to domestic violence charges filed by his wife.

Biju Janata Dal MP Anubhav Mohanty appeared before the Odisha State Commission for Women on Tuesday, in response to his wife Varsha Priyadarshini's complaint of domestic violence against him.

On December 15, Priyadarshini had moved Odisha SCW levying allegations of domestic violence against her actor-politician husband. Mohanty and Priyadarshini got married in 2014. While Priyadarshini is an actor, Mohanty is currently serving as a Rajya Sabha MP.

Though the commission had issued a summon notice to Anubhav Mohanty along with his parents, the BJD politician appeared alone. Priyadarshini went to the state commission office where the couple was questioned in connection with the petition moved by Priyadarshini.

Varsha Priyadarshini filed a case of domestic violence against Mohanty at a court in Cuttack under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act. In her complaint against, she alleged that he assaulted and harassed her. She also demanded Rs 15 crore worth compensation for loss of her income due to losing out on movies as well as a monthly amount of Rs 70,000 for her house rent and maintenance. As per Priyadarshini's accusations, Mohanty is a habitual drunkard and had multiple affairs with his co-stars. In response to this domestic violence complaint, Mohanty filed a divorce suit in New Delhi.

Nine days ago, police registered a case against Mohanty, and his two associates, after Priyadarshini alleged that Mohanty had locked her in a room at his Cuttack house. Later, she was rescued by police, reports Hindustan Times.
