BLACKPINK The Movie: The management agency of popular South Korean girl group BLACKPINK announced that a film titled BLACKPINK The Movie will be released in August to mark the band's fifth anniversary.

On June 16, YG Entertainment announced that the girl group’s new film will be released in 100 countries worldwide in August, which is the month of their debut anniversary.

BLACKPINK The Movie is a film about the journey of the four band members: Lisa, Jennie, Rose, and Jisoo and their rise to fame, globally. The film will reportedly include various sequences like “The Room of Memory, which will show all the memories the group has shared among themselves as well as with fans for the past five years.

The movie will also have an “Unreleased Special Interview” for the fans. In addition, there will be five songs from their previous concerts The Show and In Your Area.

BLACKPINK The Movie is a part of BLACKPINK’s fifth-anniversary project titled “4+1 PROJECT.” The has reportedly planned gifts and surprises for their fans, popularly called BLINKs, during this season. A festival for BLACKPINK’s fans featuring a performance by the band is also reportedly in the pipeline for their anniversary.

In May this year, the band's 2019 hit song Kill this Love surpassed 1.3 billion views on YouTube. It is now the fastest K-pop group music video to cross the 1.3 billion viewers milestone. It took the music video two years, one month and seventeen days to cross the milestone. The previous record-holder was also the same girl group as they surpassed the 1.3 billion views mark quickly with their other worldwide hit song DDU-DU DDU-DU. While the band continues to make music together, the members are all their way to having solo careers as K-pop singers. Bandmate Lisa  is scheduled to make her solo debut this month, while Rose made her solo debut in March 2021, with an album title R. Bandmate Jennie has also made her solo debut.
