The CCTV footage, along with a WhatsApp message, was shared on social media on June 22 and has been going viral since. The WhatsApp message read that the children were left unattended for 10 minutes, during which anything could have happened to the child who was beaten. According to the WhatsApp message, the incident happened at a school named Tenderfoot Montessori School in Chikkalasandra, Bengaluru.

The video has garnered over 208.5K views since it was uploaded. Netizens have strongly criticised the school and pointed out its unprofessionalism. One person said that both the child and his parents should be investigated. Another user commented that if abuse was normalised at home or if children were exposed to violent sports such as WWE at home, then they would indulge in such problematic behaviours. A third user empathised that strict action should be taken against the school.

As the mother of a preschooler, this video has left me deeply disturbed. Children spend three straight hours in school, and parents completely entrust the well-being and safety of their children to the school authorities. It’s their responsibility to ensure that the children are in a healthy and safe environment.

Violent behaviour in toddlers can be caused by various factors, including the environment at home, the content they consume on media, etc. While it’s also the parents responsibility to ensure their children are taught not to indulge in violent behaviour, shouldn’t the school be more responsible during the three hours that parents entrust the school with their children?

What if the abuse had gotten worse and the child had ended up inflicting grave injury on the other? It’s completely unprofessional and outright irresponsible of the school authorities to leave the children unattended.
