An American woman’s social media post about embracing Indian traditions after marrying a man from Goa has gone viral, sparking conversations about interracial marriages and cultural adaptation. The video shows how she responds to questions about wearing traditional symbols of a married Hindu woman, such as a mangalsutra and bindis, while living in the USA.

Viral Video: American Woman Answers Questions About Wearing Hindu Symbols

In the viral video, the woman, named Jessica, is seen stepping out of what appears to be a supermarket. Around her neck, she wears a mangalsutra, a sacred necklace worn by married Hindu women. She also has anklets on her feet. 

As Jessica walks away from the establishment, a text overlay in the video read, "An Indian Lady Asked Me, Why Am I Wearing Bindi, Mangalsutra, Toe Rings, Anklets, Bangles" another text insert appears on the screen,“I said I’m married to an Indian Hindu man.” 

The caption of the video read, “I get the most weird questions in USA. Is it not common to wear these things for a married Hindu women? Comment below. Did I answer correctly? How would you reply?" Take a look at the video here

The video quickly gained attention, with many users sharing their thoughts on cultural adaptation and the experiences of interracial couples. Some praised Jessica for embracing Indian traditions and respecting her husband's culture. Others pointed out, "Same my husband is Punjabi Sikh & I get the same questions(39yrs) .. Now I answer because I like to wear them then I put my hands together 🙏🏻 & say Sat Siri Akal & walk away" Another user wrote, "Married 23 years and I still get asked: do I like Indian food? Do I know how to cook it? And when the answer is yes, it’s a huge surprise."

The woman in the reel, Jessica Vernekar, known on Instagram as Vernekar Family, has gained popularity for sharing her life with her Indian husband. In one of her reels, she shared how they met and eventually got married. She recalled, "He asked me if I wanted to ride with him on his sports bike. We would go to nightclubs and dance together. He even impressed my family, including my grandma, and now we’re married." Jessica, originally from the USA, lives there with her husband, who hails from Goa, and their two children.
