What the girl later revealed was shocking, disgusting and more than anything inhuman. She told her parents that she was being repeatedly raped by seven men in the last six months. Why she kept quiet for six months you ask? Because the rapists told her that they will be set her on fire if she ever opens her mouth. According to the police, two of the accused persons are above 50 years of age while two others are in their early thirties.

What's even more frightening and disgusting is that the men who did those horrible things to a teenage girl were not really strangers. One of the accused is a grocery shop owner Satyanarayan and his son, two others are also the survivor's neighbours. The police in Bhiwani Kheda said that incident used to take place at the grocery shop where the girl used to go buy stuff. The men have been charged for gangraping a minor girl, criminal intimidation, and under the POSCO act. Although no arrests have been made so far.

There is something barbaric about a society where grown-up adults prey on children. Nothing can ever explain what goes on in attackers' mind when they decide to do such horrible things to little girls. Women around the world are forced to explain themselves are often blamed for the treatment they receive from men, what could have a 16-year-old girl done to make such a thing happen to her? Nothing, she just had to be a woman.

There is something barbaric about a society where grown-up adults prey on children. Nothing can ever explain what goes on in attackers' mind when they decide to do such horrible things to little girls.

Before we look at the registered crimes on children in the past year or so, it is shocking to note that just in the last two months more than 10 such cases reported by the media. This rampantly growing number of cases have many devastating stories behind them. Just yesterday, police in Mumbai arrested a boxing coach who had allegedly raped his minor student. The survivor is only 14. According to the police, she too had been allegedly threatened by her attacker. The girl finally decided to open up to her parents three days after the assault.

The latest available data of the National Crime Records Bureau of India is of 2019 and the number of such crimes against children shows an increase of about 5% from 2018. The total number of rape case filed under the POSCO act was 26,192, out of which 25,934 were girls.

At this point, we need to question if the children in our society are safe. A grocery shop owner, a coach, sometimes a teacher and even close a relative, how can we save our children from the monsters who hide in plain sight?
