obsessing over other kids

Years ago Emma Watson was publicly vilified for not being able to find a guy at 30 because she publicly stated being content 'self partnered'. Every day women are asked questions about when they will have kids, why women 'should' get married, how women should sit, what women can say. As a result, people are even quick to pass judgments such as 'oh she must be single', 'looks bitchy', 'divorced', 'too loud', 'chalu' and what not.

Just how do you expect women to win in such a society? For a more equal world, we need to stop judging women, like now.  I have got my list out here. Feel free to add yours.

Here's a list of 18 things for which we must stop judging women

  1. Having a lot of guy friends. This does not make them characterless.
  2. Dressing up according to their choice. It's their bodies and they should be allowed to do as they please.
  3. Being outspoken. There's no harm in being fearless and stating what is correct.
  4. Laughing their hearts out at a joke. Shouldn't we normalise having a good laugh as a basic human need? Why teach women not to express themselves?
  5. Having an opinion. Every individual has the right to have a say in the matters which concern them.
  6. Being unmarried. Life is much more than marriage. Stop forcing women to believe that their existence without a partner is meaningless.
  7. Not knowing how to cook. Yes, cooking is a survival skill but not everyone is a good cook. You need talent and interest to learn it, which all of us don't have.
  8. Not being "talented enough". Women aren't meant to entertain you. So stop expecting them to be great singers, dancers and artists.
  9. For being in love with a woman. Homosexuality is not a choice. It's something one is born with and cannot be altered. Accept women for who they are.
  10. Having too much of sex. What's wrong with being sexually active? It's a normal phenomenon and we need to shed the stigma around it immediately.
  11. Not having sex at all. Just like there's no harm in liking sex, there's also no harm in not liking it. All women are not comfortable being in sexual relationships and we must respect their boundaries.
  12. For loving animals more than humans. Being an animal lover, I must say that being around fur babies gives me immense happiness. No human can ever make me feel that way. And no, I am not open to your judgements.
  13. Prioritising career over family. But this doesn't mean that we don't love our family. We know they understand our struggles and will always support us in our decisions.
  14. Prioritising family over career. Yeah, we can devote our entire lives for our family while managing our career.
  15. Remaining childfree. I have said this numerous times earlier and I am reiterating it. Motherhood is a choice and cannot be forced upon a woman. This spoils the lives of both the mother and the child.
  16. For not "sitting like a lady". Stop judging women and moral policing them for every little thing they do. Our posture of sitting doesn't define us.
  17. For preferring Western outfits to traditional ones. One should wear the clothes one is comfortable in. Just because we wear jeans and not saree does not mean we don't respect our culture. We can be modern yet traditional at the same time.
  18. For taking a break from their busy lives. All of us deserve to give ourselves a mini vacation at least once a year. This doesn't mean we take our work casually. It just means that we want some time off to re-energise ourselves.
