CEO and co-founder of ScoopWhoop website, Sattvik Mishra, announced his decision to resign from his post on February 7 after a former employee of the organisation went public with sexual assault allegations against him. The employee accused Mishra of assaulting them at his home in an inebriated state. Mishra’s wife and the website’s co-founder Sriparna Tikekar too had her name dragged in the case and has been accused with the abetment of crime.
Tikekar and Mishra co-founded the media organisation along with Rishi Pratim Mukherjee, Saransh Singh, Suparn Pandey and Debarshi Banerjee back in 2013. The two are married and have a daughter together. According to the survivor, the assault allegedly took place on October 7 last year following which a complaint was filed and Mishra was accused under sections 377 and 354A of the Indian Penal Code, which deal with unnatural sex. Tikekar, on the other hand, was accused under sections 108 and 116 of the Indian Penal Code, for the abetment of the crime.
According to the survivor, Tikekar was present in the house where the alleged incident took place. The survivor had met Mishra to discuss their new role in the company amidst its acquisition by Good Glamm. The survivor had filed a complaint with the Internal Complain Committee at the organisation, allegedly within a few days of the incident taking place. The complainant further alleged that they were offered a huge amount of money to keep mum about the alleged incident.
Reportedly, in the complaint, the survivor had demanded that the organisation forms a new committee to investigate the case, one without Tikekar, who is Mishra’s wife, amongst other demands. They decided to go public with the allegations after the ICC failed to take any actions against Mishra. Read more about the allegations and alleged assault here.
On February 7, Mishra stepped down as the CEO and in an Instagram post announced that Mukherjee would be taking over as the Interim CEO. He wrote, “Due to personal reasons, I am stepping down from my post as the CEO of ScoopWhoop. The last few months have been extremely challenging for me and my family with constant threats and mental harassment by an ex-colleague.”
