On October 8, Mia Kurniawan uploaded a video on TikTok in which she could be seen scaling and seasoning an arowana fish. "My husband kept promising to clean the aquarium after I told him to. I thought it would be delicious if I fried it," she wrote in the caption of her post. After plating the fried pet (yes we know how bizarre that sounds) Kurniawan can be seen making a heart gesture with her hands.

According to a report by Asia One, Kurniwan received a backlash for her actions, with many people calling her out in the comments section of her post. The 20-second video clip eventually went viral and made headlines.

If you are wondering how the incident has impacted the couple's relationship, Kurniwan has uploaded follow up videos from her account revealing that her husband has forgiven her and is now looking to purchase another arowana fish.

As mentioned above, arowana fish is an expensive pet to keep- in countries like China and Japan, it is considered a simple of prosperity and wealth. Covered in golden scales, the fish is listed as an endangered species and thus a licence is required to acquire it. Its endangered status has not deterred patrons from acquiring it. A report by Yahoo! says that the Asian arowana fish is also entered in beauty pageants by its keepers and is also made to undergo cosmetic surgery for eyes and chin.
