Jane Powell, Veteran Hollywood Star Passes Away At 92

Jane Powell's popular films from the 1940s and 50s include MGM musicals ‘Royal Wedding’ and ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’. She was known for her soprano voice.

American actress, singer, dancer and Veteran Star Jane Powell passed away on Thursday. Powell was 92 and died of natural causes.

Powell popular films include MGM musicals Royal Wedding (1951)  and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers(1954). She was known for her soprano voice and ‘girl-next-door’ image.

Powell’s career spanned over decades. She signed a seven-year contract with MGM at a very young age. She made her debut in 1944, in the film, Song of the Open Road, aged fifteen.  Her other popular works include A Date with Judy, Hit the Deck, Female Animal, and Enchanted Island.

Powell was featured alongside  notable stars from Hollywood such as Pidgeon, Xavier Cugat, Jose Iturbi, Jeanette McDonald, Camen Miranda, Wallace Beery and Elizabeth Taylor.

Powell's performance with Pink Martini at the Hollywood Bowl and being a guest host on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) were among her last public appearances. She also received the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame award.

Powell married five times, including figure skater Gearhardt ‘Geary’ Anthony Steffen. She married former child star Dickie Moore in 1988 He was her fifth husband who passed away in 2015. She is survived Geary Anthony Steffen III, Suzanne Steffen and Lindsay Cavalli, her kids, and her two granddaughters Tia Cavalli and Skye Cavalli.

Hearing about her demise, many users on social media came together to pay their condolences. “RIP Jane Powell, one of the last remaining great stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age”, a comment read.
