Delhi Police Rolls Out 100 Buses with an App-based Service

Despite being the capital city, women in Delhi have it tough as far as safety is concerned. Delhi Police has women security as their top priority and has taken initiatives like the introduction of Himmat, a safety app, imparting knowledge on self-defence in schools and colleges, introducing female motorbike squad called Raftar, the Police the Parakram unit of Delhi Police which has female commandos to fight terrorism in the capital.

Recently, the Delhi Police announced that it will introduce 100 private buses in collaboration with an app-based operator in order to provide safety to women while travelling. It is a joint campaign of Delhi Police with ‘Shuttl’ an app-based office bus service. They have a fleet of 350 buses to create awareness about safety and security of women.

Depender Pathak, a special CP (Traffic), inaugurated this service. He said "the Police will always continue to take efforts in order to ensure women's safety in the city. He also said that presently, the app has more than 30,000 people travelling everyday," the Hindustan Times reported.

As per reports  ‘Shuttl” has more than 30,000 people travel every day. Amit Singh, co-founder of “Shuttl”, was also present during the flagging of the First fleet of 25 buses at Rajghat.

To create awareness for the safety of women, the buses have also been painted with the women helpline number 1091. They have posters on Sashakti (self-defence) training, along with messages on anti-terrorism and women empowerment.

The buses will have safety messages displayed on them.  “Messages on women empowerment and anti-terrorism are displayed on both the sides of the buses in addition to a poster on the Himmat app inside. More than 30,000 people travel aboard Shuttl buses daily and the initiative will help boost downloads of Himmat app,” the police said in a statement as per a report in The Hindu.
