Following videos of the incident going viral on social media, local leaders demanded that authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the issue and emphasised the need to improve security measures.

This incident happened within days after a 40-year-old man was hunted down and nabbed by the Mumbai police for sexually assaulting a 20-year-old girl in a moving local train in Mumbai. The girl was travelling alone in an empty ladies' compartment when the accused began sexually assaulting her on the train en route from CSTM station to Masjid station. As soon as the girl raised the alarm, the man fled from the train into the Masjid station.

The girl then filed a complaint with the railway police and lodged an FIR. The Government Railway Police (GRP) checked the CCTV footage inside and outside the station, identified the accused, and arrested him within eight hours.

Need For Tighter Security

Despite swift action taken by the Mumbai police, it’s shocking that other men have dared to enter a ladies’ compartment and refused to leave despite being told to.

Given the regular cases of public transport harassment that women are subjected to, it's no wonder that women are forced to get aggressive to safeguard themselves against potential perpetrators. In addition to swift action, it would be reassuring for women if stronger security measures were implemented at railway stations to prevent incidents like these from happening.
