A 35-year-old woman who was arrested by the Tamil Nadu police in connection with the kidnapping case of a toddler died in police custody in Coimbatore on October 9.

According to CCTV footage, the woman identified as Thilagavathi was seen walking with an 18-month-old baby in her arms when the Tamil Nadu police tracked her down.

Woman Accused Of Kidnapping Dies In Custody

The police took Thilagavathy and her husband, Pandian, into custody and interrogated them. While being interrogated, Thilagavathy fainted. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

The toddler was the child of a Coimbatore couple named Rathi and Muthuraj, who complained that their child had gone missing five days ago while visiting the Thiruchendur temple. According to the parents, Thilagavathy and her husband accompanied them to the temple, and soon their 18-month-old baby and Thilagavathy were nowhere to be found.

Soon after Thilagavathy’s arrest, the toddler was rescued from her husband Pandian’s relative’s house in Salem.

On September 28, Mumbai police arrested a 74-year-old man in connection with the kidnapping case of a 4-year-old girl who went missing while playing outside her home in Navi Mumbai. According to the police, the incident happened near the Nerul railway station area of Navi Mumbai. The girl’s parents filed a complaint at the Nerul police station. after she did not return home.

The police combed through the CCTV footage of the area and caught an elderly man carrying the child in his arms and walking away. The police formed a team, identified the man, and laid a trap to arrest him. The accused was caught in the Karave Village area of Navi Mumbai.

The police identified the accused as Mani Thomas. He had kept the girl at his house. According to the police, the accused remarried after his first wife passed away but couldn’t have children. He claimed that he kidnapped the girl because he wanted a child. A preliminary investigation revealed that he was planning on leaving the state along with the child.

The girl was unharmed and was reunited with her parents, while the accused was charged with kidnapping and taken into police custody.
