Japanese Actor Sayaka Kanda Passes Away At 35 After Deadly Fall At Hotel

Who is Sayaka Kanda: In a tragic case from Japan, actor and singer Sayaka Kanda reportedly passed away December 18 after falling six floors from her hotel room in the city of Sapporo. She was 35. A statement from her agency confirmed her sudden death, mentioning that an investigation was underway.

As per local media Kyodo News, Kanda's death case is being probed as a probable suicide. Foul play, however, has not been ruled out at this point in the investigation.

She was reportedly found in a pool of blood on the 14th floor of the hotel she was at over the weekend. Kanda was staying on the 22nd floor and appeared to have taken a deadly fall through six floors.

"I would like to report to everyone who has supported Sayaka Kanda so far. Kanda Sayaka (35 years old) died suddenly at 9:40 pm on December 18, 2021," the statement on Kanda's death, credited to the CEO of her agency, reads. "We are very sorry to give such a report to all the fans who supported us and all the people who took care of us. We are still unable to accept her passing and are trying to cope with it."

Kanda was rushed to a hospital, after she was discovered on a balcony of her hotel's 14th floor, where she was pronounced dead, local reports suggest. The Hokkaido Prefectural Police are looking into the investigation of the matter.

Who was Sayaka Kanda?

Kanda was the only daughter of former celebrity couple Masaki Kanda, an actor, and Seiko Matsuda, a singer. The late actor was notable not just for acting credits, but also for her singing and songwriting prowesses, which she exhibited both solo as well as with her mother, Seiko.

Kanda's film appearances include Dragon Wars, School Wars: Hero and Real Girl. She also has vast theatre credits, which include performances for iconic plays like A Midsummer Night's Dream, Les Miserables and Anne of Green Gables. She married actor Mitsu Murata in 2017 but the couple divorced after two years.
