The car, a Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus, was driven by a 20 year old identified as Rakshit Chaurasiya. His friend, Meet Chauhan, was in the passenger seat at the time of the crash. According to reports, Chaurasiya was allegedly drunk while driving the car at high speed. The vehicle first hit a woman riding a scooter, dragging her and another two-wheeler rider for some distance. The crash was so intense that the airbags deployed upon impact. The deceased woman was identified as Hemali Patel, while her husband remains in critical condition.

5 Things To Know

1. Authorities revealed that the vehicle belonged to Meet Chauhan, who was sitting in the passenger seat when the accident happened. After the crash, Chauhan quickly exited the car and tried to distance himself from the situation, blaming Chaurasiya.

A viral video circulating online shows him walking away from the scene, saying, "I didn’t do anything. He was driving the car" before managing to flee. However, Chauhan was arrested a few hours later.

2. Following the crash, Chaurasiya stepped out of the car and began acting erratically. Eyewitnesses captured him on video shouting, "Another round? Another round?" He also mentioned a girl’s name, Nikita, and suddenly started chanting ‘Om Namah Shivaay.’ Before the police arrived, locals confronted Chaurasiya, and he was reportedly beaten by the angry crowd.

3. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Panna Momaya confirmed Chaurasiya’s arrest and stated, "A car was moving from Sangam to Muktanand crossroad. It met with an accident while overspeeding. The police reached the spot and arrested one accused, Rakshit Ravish Chaurasiya… The search to arrest the other accused, Meet Chauhan, is underway."

4. Officials suspect that the crash was caused by drunk driving, though they are awaiting the results of Chaurasiya’s medical test. He has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

5. Chaurasiya, who hails from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, is a law student at MS University in Vadodara. He was staying in a PG accommodation in the city, according to police reports. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.

Speaking to ANI, Chaurasiya claimed, "We were going ahead of the scooty, we were turning right and there was a pothole on the road. There was a scooty and a car while we were turning right.  The car slightly touched the other vehicle and the airbag opened suddenly, our vision was hampered and the car went out of control. We were going at 50 km/hour. There were no people at that time, just a scooter and a car...I had no idea. I did not do any party, I went for Holika Dahan and was not drunk... Today, I was told that one woman has died and a few have sustained injuries. I want to meet the family of the victims, it is my fault and whatever they want should happen."
