Sudha Murty Alleges Misuse Of Her Name In US Events, 2 Women Booked

Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, renowned author, and philanthropist Sudha Murty approached the Bengaluru police, alleging that her name was misused to deceive people in two separate events in the US.

The Bengaluru police have booked two women identified as Lavanya and Shruthi with regard to the case. As per The Indian Express report, a case has been registered under Sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology (IT) Act, as reported by Indian Express.

Sudha Murty Alleges Misuse Of Her Name

Sudha Murty alleged in her complaint that she had received an invitation to attend the 50^th anniversary of Jannada Joota of Northern California (KKNC) on April 5, to which her office responded that she would not be able to attend the event.

However, on August 30, she came across photos and videos of the KKNC event, which stated that she would preside over the event as the chief guest. When Murty approached the KKNC organisers to inquire about this, they said that Lavanya had confirmed her presence at the event and claimed to be Murty’s personal assistant.

In another incident, a woman named Shruthi collected $40 from people claiming that Murty would be attending an event in the US. Murty’s office noticed an advertisement showing a “meet-and-greet with Dr. Sudha Murty” on September 26.

Speaking about the case, a police official told the IE that they are yet to ascertain whether these women are in the USA or India, adding that further investigation is underway.

Earlier in August, Dr. Sudha Murty was included in the committee along with 19 other people as part of the new committee constituted by the NCERT. The committee will have the authority to finalise the curriculum, textbooks, and learning materials for classes 3 to 12. It will be headed by the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) chancellor, MC Pant, and co-chaired by Manjul Bhargav, a mathematics professor at Princeton University.
