Sudan: Girl Gangraped On Street By 20 Men, Stirs Social Media Outrage

The incident was recently reported by the local media of Sudan however according to one report, the incident took place during day time on December 31, 2020.

A girl was reportedly gangraped at knifepoint by 20 men on Nile Street in Khartoum city of Sudan. The accused persons allegedly surrounded the car the survivor was in and they dragged her out before committing the crime. So far the survivor’s name and exact age have not been revealed.

The incident was recently reported by the local media of Sudan however according to one report, the incident took place during day time on December 31, 2020. Nile Street, where the crime was allegedly committed is said to be a prominent spot of the Khartoum city, near River Nile, that has many important buildings in place.

According to the DailyMail, the case hasn’t received much reaction from the authorities and it is still unclear if the investigations are going on. 

The news of the Khartoum city gangrape saw major outrage on social media and many users started tweeting about it with hashtags ‘it’s not okay and ‘we are with you’. Many users extended their support to the survivor and called out the authorities for allegedly not taking the appropriate actions. 

One user wrote, “ Sudanese women have the right to exist and occupy space in their own country the same way Sudanese men get to do so, without their lives being in danger.”

She then asked, “Where are our human rights? Where are the laws that protect us?”

Another user highlighted how women are taught how to avoid being raped rather men being educated to respect women. She wrote, “Unfortunately, we spend more time teaching our daughters how to avoid becoming rape victims than teaching our sons not to become rapists” 

A user wrote, “ We need to do better for our women. We’re so so far behind providing the basic needs of security for them. A new Sudan will never be formed without the protection of every single civilian.”
