Actor Siddharth had yesterday issued an apology letter to the badminton player Saina Nehwal on the tweet that raised outrage on social media. Nehwal had posted on Modi’s security lapse in Punjab and Siddharth had retweeted it and commented with “misogynistic and outrageous” words according to National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma. Many users on Twitter also took objection to it.
Later, the actor tried clarifying the meaning of his joke. Yesterday, he pinned on his Twitter feed an apology to Nehwal beginning with, “Dear Saina…” Nehwal responded to his apology in a quote to the news agency, ANI today.
“He (actor Siddharth) said something about me first and then apologised. I don’t even know why it went so viral. I was surprised to see myself trending on Twitter. Happy that Siddharth has apologised,” said Badminton player Saina Nehwal. She added, “You should not target a woman like that. It is okay. I am not bothered about it. I am happy in my place. God bless him.”

Saina Nehwal On Siddharth Apology
After getting flak on social media for the tweet, the actor apologised in a note posted on Twitter. He wrote, “I want to apologise to you for my rude joke that I wrote as a response to a tweet of yours, a few days ago. I may disagree with you on many things but even my disappointment or anger when I read your tweet, cannot justify my tone and words. I know, I have more grace in me than that.”
Siddharth had also tweeted what the joke meant and how it was taken off-topic, but in the letter, he wrote, “As for the joke…If a joke needs to be explained, then it wasn’t a very good joke, to begin with. Sorry about a joke that didn’t land.” He concluded the letter by stating that Nehwal will always be his “Champion.”
Earlier, Saina Nehwal’s husband and a shuttler Parupalli Kashyap had slammed the actor for his tweet and wrote, “This is upsetting for us…express ur opinion but choose better words man. I guess u thought it was cool to say it this way. #notcool #disgrace.”
