Ranveer Allahbadia Under Fire as Police Charge India’s Got Latent Hosts, Guests
The Maharashtra Cyber Department has registered an FIR against Allahbadia, Raina, and several other artists for allegedly creating and broadcasting obscene content on their YouTube show India’s Got Latent. The FIR, filed on Tuesday, February 12, follows widespread public outrage over the show's content.
According to a police official cited by Press Trust of India, the cyber department acted suo moto (on its own) after Allahbadia’s controversial remarks on the show sparked significant backlash. The department is also issuing summonses to around 30 guests who have appeared on the show since its first episode.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and opposition leaders of Maharashtra have also criticised him for his remarks. Chief Minister Fadnavis stated that even though he hasn't seen the clip in question, he cautioned people about the limits of freedom of speech.
"Everyone has the freedom of speech but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others... In our society, we have made some rules, it is absolutely wrong if someone violates them. Action should be taken against them," he said.
This development comes just a day after the Assam Police filed a separate case against Allahbadia over similar controversial comments, adding to the growing legal troubles faced by the podcaster.
