Academy-award winning director Kevin MacDonald will be directing the documentary. While Emmy-nominated producer Lisa Erspamer will produce this series. Erspamer had earlier collaborated with Winfrey as she had produced The Oprah Winfrey Show during the decade between 1999 and 2009.

Both MacDonald and Erspamer had previously worked together for Whitney Houston's documentary titled Whitney. Back in 2018, Winfrey had tweeted calling the Houston film "fearless". Also, Emmy nominee Rolake Bamgbose is to serve as the showrunner for the upcoming series.

The Oprah series is expected to be exclusively premiered on Apple TV+. But the time of the start of production and the date of the premiere is currently unclear.
