A 25-year-old mother from Madhya Pradesh courageously fought off a tiger to save her 15-month-old son. The tiger attacked the child and held him in his jaws before his mother stepped in and rescued him.

The woman, identified as Archana Choudhary and her son Raviraj are currently undergoing treatment in a hospital for the injuries they received during the incident. The incident occurred under the Mala beat of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, in Umaria district, Madhya Pradesh.

Mother Fights Tiger To Save Son

Choudhary said she had taken her son to a field to relieve herself when the tiger attacked him and grabbed a hold of him with his jaws. When the mother tried to save her child, the tiger attacked her as well. Choudhary said that she kept on attempting to save her child and she raised the alarm and the villagers rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, the villagers chased the tiger away and it fled into the forest, leaving the child behind.

Choudhary's husband Bhola Prasad said that his wife had an injured waist, back, and hand and their son was hurt on his head and back following the attack.

A forest guard Ram Singh Marko informed that the mother and son were taken to a health centre in Manpur and then taken to a district hospital in Umaria for treatment. He added that the forest department team was trying to track the tracker which attacked the mother and son.

Umaria Collector Sanjeev Shrivastava met the survivors of the tiger attack at the district hospital before they were referred to a hospital in Jabalpur for further treatment. Shrivastava said he would be holding a meeting with the safety of villagers residing in forest areas.

Similar Case

On November 28, 2021, a tribal woman from Madhya Pradesh chased a leopard for over a kilometre to rescue her son. The woman, Kiran Baiga was sitting with her three children when a leopard appeared and grabbed her son Rahul by his neck and ran into the jungle.

The mother lept into action and locked her two other children in their home before running off the track down the leopard and son armed with only a stick. Both mother and child were injured in the incident and provided medical assistance.
