A man killed his 20-year-old daughter, tied her body to his motorbike, and dragged it through Muchhal village in Jandiala town of Amritsar after she left home for a day without telling her parents. The accused, identified as Bau, reportedly doubted his daughter’s character and killed her.
The police said that the accused, who worked as a labourer, left his daughter’s body at the railway crossing about 500 metres away from his house and fled the spot. The accused, who was booked for murdering his daughter, was arrested after a search by the city police.

A day after the man’s arrest, TOI quoted him, saying that he didn’t repent of his act. He said that he killed her because he suspected she stayed at someone’s house at night and killed her out of pride. The report further noted him saying the punishment was meant to be a deterrent to the other girls repeating what his daughter reportedly did. He further said that he didn’t want to be like other parents in the village, who would at the most "confine their daughters" if they did something inappropriate.
CCTV footage showed the accused dragging his daughter’s body tied to his motorbike before dumping it on the railway tracks, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh.
The accused confined his family members at home and threatened to kill them if they interfered. They didn’t leave their home due to fear.
The accused’s father said that his granddaughter (the girl) left home on Wednesday without informing her family. They had searched for her but were unable to locate her. When she returned home on Thursday, her father questioned her, but the girl remained silent.
The police FIR stated that angered by the girl’s act, the man had physically assaulted his daughter before killing her using sharp weapons.
The police revealed that the man had five children, including four daughters. The deceased girl was his third daughter. Police have taken the girl’s body. They also shared that the girl had studied up to class 12 before dropping out.
One of the villagers, named Balbir Singh, said that the accused was known for his temper. He would often beat up his children and wife over petty issues. His wife had told Singh that the accused had gotten very angry after his daughter returned home after being missing for a day. He then attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon before killing her.
