Legal Notice To Sabyasachi: A Bombay High Court advocate Ashutosh Dubey has issued a legal notice to designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee for using "semi-naked models for a Mangalsutra ad." The ad had led to a huge social media uproar as many people had felt that it hurt Hindu sentiments by degrading an ornament held sacred by many Hindus.

The practising advocate from Mumbai sent out a six-pointer legal notice on October 30, addressed to Mukherjee, who had designed the controversial jewellery line. In the legal notice, the advocate states, "In one picture, a female model is seen wearing a black brassiere and Sabyasachi's mangalsutra as her head rests on a shirtless male model is totally outrageous to entire Hindu community as well as Hindu marriage."

While defining what the word mangalsutra meant, he also stated that it symbolises that a woman and man are mates for life until death separates them. According to Dubey, a wife is meant to wear the mangalsutra for life which indicates her "love and commitment" towards the husband.

He went on to give a "scientific" justification for his statements above that the Hindu culture advises mangalsutra should be made of gold and hidden behind the "inners" while the advertisement showed both heterosexual and same-sex couples wear 'the Royal Bengal mangalsutra' did the opposite.

The advocate demanded an apology from the designer to the public and that the advertisement should be pulled down. He has given Mukherjee 15 days to do so or else bear "the cost, risk, responsibilities, expenses and consequences thereof."

The Royal Bengal Mangalsutra 1.2 ad campaign is being trolled on social media platforms since October 27. The campaign featured same-sex and heterosexual couples in intimate poses, wearing the Sabyasachi jewellery including the controversial mangalsutra. No official comment has been made by Sabyasachi on the controversy as of yet.
