Kanishka Mittal, who wrote JEE Advanced 2020 from IIT Roorkee zone and is a resident of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh has bagged AIR 1 in the ‘girls category’. According to the results which were declared today, she scored 315 marks out of 396 and her overall rank is 17. This year 1.50 lakh candidates appeared for the exam out of which over 43,204 have cleared it. Of the total qualified candidates, 6,707 are females. The overall rank 1 has been bagged by Chirag Falor, a resident of Pune. The second and third rank has been bagged by Gangula Bhuvan Reddy and Vaibhav Raj respectively as reported by NDTV.
The 17-year old girl spent the last two years of her life preparing for IIT in Kota. Speaking to Hindustan Times she said, “My elder brother is doing B.Tech. Seeing him, I got inspired and came to Kota with the dream of becoming an IITian. To prepare for JEE, I took admission in Allen career institute.”
She added, “I never compared myself to others. I was in competition with myself. That’s why I always tried to give my best. I believed in myself. I used to do homework regularly. I practised more and more questions because JEE paper is new every time. Questions can come from any topic, from anywhere. Before coming to Kota, my Maths was strong but Physics was weak. Now my physics is the strongest. I have passed 12th class with 98.4% and 10th class with 99% marks.”
She believes that the lockdown helped her achieve the rank as it gave her more time to prepare. When the exams were pushed forward due to the pandemic she utilised this time and studied for 8 to 10 hours every day. She took up several questions and cleared all her doubts with the help of her faculty. Among other things, she loves to read novels and to draw, but in the last two years, she got the time to read only one novel as she was preparing for IIT. Another girl Ira Sarda topped among girl candidates in Delhi with a percentile of 99.99% and AIR 44.
