Journalist Arnab Goswami was arrested on November 4 in connection with a case of abetment to suicide from 2018. Sharing her views on the matter, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut on Saturday took to her Twitter account and posted a two-minute video, demanding justice for Goswami. The Republic TV owner and editor, Goswami had been sent to judicial custody at Alibaug till November 18 with two other accused but was also granted protection from Supreme Court. He was arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of 53-year-old interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik in 2018. The reinvestigation of the same was reordered in May 2020 by Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. A team of the Alibaug police picked up Goswami from his Lower Parel house on Wednesday morning.

The Supreme Court later issued a contempt notice to Maharashtra Assembly Secretary for breaching the confidentiality of the proceedings of the House by approaching the Apex Court against the breach of privilege notice on October 13.

Ranaut said that he needs to be released soon as that's how we could save the "democracy". She further added, "Arnab Goswami is in jail but no Journalist Guild has been formed in support, no one is saying anything. The lobby is so strong."

Kangana Ranaut's ‘release Arnab’ plea

Taking to her Twitter on Friday, Ranaut again highlighted the deaths of Sushant Singh Rajput and his former manager Disha Salian, and in her own words criticised the alleged "mafia" culture of Bollywood. She termed Rajput and his manager's deaths in June as "murders."

"We can only imagine who all are involved in Sushant`s and Disha murders, Bullydawood's drug racket and child trafficking business, every voice against the mafia is being choked #ReleaseArnabNow," the Queen actress tweeted.

This is not the first time that the Tanu Weds Manu star is raising her voice against injustice. She issued a similar response on the day of Goswami’s arrest as well. She took a dig at Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and said in a video, “I want to ask Maharashtra government that today you went to Arnab Goswami's home, pulled his hair and assaulted him. How many homes will you demolish and how many necks will you strangle? How many hair will you pull? Sonia Sena, how many voices will you stop?  These voices will only increase. They have been many who have been hanged for free speech."

Goswami was 'manhandled'

Meanwhile, Goswami has filed a bail application in the Bombay High Court on Saturday. His lawyer reportedly claimed that he has suffered "serious injuries while in illegal detention."

In his bail plea, Goswami alleged of being manhandled by the police. His application states, "During the course of his arrest and while being transferred to Alibaug in a police van and in the custody of the police, the petitioner suffered a 6-inch-deep gash on his left hand, a serious injury to his spinal cord, was hit by a heavy uniform police officer’s boot, was not allowed to wear shoes throughout, suffered vein injuries and was not even given access to drinking water. He was also forced to consume certain liquid by the police officers guarding him and choked as a result thereof."
