J&K Govt Medical College Technician Sacked For Celebrating Pakistan's Cricket Match Win Against India

The technician has been identified as Safiya Majeed. The action against her was taken after the matter was brought to the Principal's notice, as per the official notice.

Government Medical College Employee Terminated: An Operation Theatre Technician at Jammu and Kashmir Principal Government Medical College Rajouri got terminated on Thursday for celebrating the Pakistan cricket team's win against the Indian team in the T20 World Cup match on social media.

The technician has been identified as Safiya Majeed. The action against her was taken after the matter was brought to the Principal's notice, as per the official notice.

The notice read, "A viral video has come to the notice of undersigned (Principal GMC) from different media platforms and also from DySP HQ, Rajouri who sent the same via WhatsApp in which Miss Safiya Majeed OT Technician, engaged and working as OT Technician in GMC & AH Rajouri seems to have posted her WhatsApp status showing celebration of defeat of Indian Cricket Team against Pakistan in T-20 World Cup 2021, the activity which seems to be disloyality towards nation." He added that no employee of the institution shall be disloyal to the nation.

“As reported by HoD Gynae and Obst., the said engagee (Safiya) proceeded on casual leave for five days w.e.f 21-10-2021 and also failed to join her duties on expiry of said leave,” the order reads, adding, “no prior notice is required to be given to such employee for gross indiscipline in her duties.” After the notice, The Principal of the medical college terminated the services of Majeed with immediate effect.

A similar case was reported on October 28 when a school teacher named Nafisa Atari was arrested for allegedly celebrating Pakistan's win in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Before her arrest, her services were also terminated from the Neerja Modi School where she worked as a teacher.

As per reports, Atari shared a WhatsApp status in which she wrote, "We wonnnn.” Reports suggest when someone on her contact list asked her whether she really supported Pakistan, she replied in the affirmative.
