India at 76th UNGA: India’s First Secretary at the United Nations Sneha Dubey recently spoke at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) where she said that about 200 million women from India are now a part of the mainstream financial system.

Sneha Dubey said on Wednesday that 200 million women from the country were now brought into the established financial structure of the country. Dubey was speaking at United Nation’s General Assembly’s 76th session.

Even during the COVID-19 in India, economic empowerment of women was promoted in the country, claimed the Indian representative to the United Nations.

When the subject of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for Sustainable Development and Globalisation was taken up at the second committee of the United Nation’s General Assembly (UNGA), Dubey remarked that the nation took unequalled steps that were “pro-poor and broad-based”.

According to reports, Dubey said, “Digital technology and the energies of the internet have been a force multiplier in this endeavour. A programme to supply free food to 800 million people and cash transfers to 400 million was streamlined by digitally-enabled technology, along with delivery of clean cooking-fuel to 80 million households.”

“Financial inclusion has been accelerated and digital transactions have been stepped up, bringing over 200 million Indian women into the mainstream financial system and thereby ushering in economic empowerment,” Dubey added.

She stressed on the effectiveness of the Indian mobile app developed by the government of India that provides services for “contact tracing, syndromic mapping and self-assessment.”

The First Secretary did not disagree with the fact that technologies are also a major source of obstacles and that they increase division.

The Stand Up India scheme, MUDRA, MSME and the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ schemes were also elaborated upon by the Secretary.
