Greater Noida: Private School Chairman Held For Raping 20-Year-Old Girl

The chairman of a private school has been booked for raping a 20-year-old girl in the Greater Noida area of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. The police officers said that the alleged incident took place on September 4. However, the matter was reported to the police on Tuesday. The girl had reportedly come to the school to collect her younger brother's transfer certificate. The brother had dropped out of the school due to the family's inability to pay the fees during the lockdown. 

Commenting on the incident, Vrinda Shukla, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women Security) in Gautam Buddh Nagar said, “The woman was scared about telling others about the incident, and the family took a couple of days to report the matter to the police. However, as soon as they filed a complaint, a case was registered and the suspect, identified as Neeraj Bhati, was arrested," The Hindustan Times reported.

On Tuesday, the survivor's family filed a complaint at the Ecotech 3 police station. A case of rape (section 376) was registered against the suspect Neeraj Bhati. The suspect was produced before a magistrate and later sent to jail, the police said.

In similar events across the country, in August 2020, a 13-year-old girl was found dead at a Jharkhand School. A police officer said that the girl was allegedly raped and murdered India TV reported.

In July 2020, three 12th standard school boys gang-raped their 17-year-old classmate repeatedly for seven months in Jodhpur. They also shot the video of the girl and posted it online.  Later on, the boys went missing since the incident came to light. Reportedly, the incident began when the minor girl was in a physical relationship with one of the accused students. Read more here

In 2019, a 16-year-old girl was raped by four of her cousins and a teacher. This incident took place in the government school’s campus in Sitapur. She was reportedly raped on several occasions in the school premises. The teacher also allegedly participated in the sexual assault.  The cousins would ask the minor girl to have lunch with them, which was reportedly laced with sedatives.
