Hyderabad: A 25-Year-old Woman Claims She Was Raped By 139 People Over 11 Years
A 25-year-old woman from Hyderabad, Telangana has reported rape by more than 130 people over the past 11 years. She has filed this complaint with the Panjagutta police station, Hyderabad reporting being raped around 5000 times in the last decade, by her husband’s family members and others. The case is currently under investigation after a 42-page FIR was filed.
Police at Panjagutta has lodged an FIR in the case, invoking sections 376 (2) (public servant committing rape taking advantage of his official position), 509 (insulting modesty of a woman), and 354 (assault or criminal force with an intent to outrage modesty) of the Indian Penal Code. Relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 have been invoked as well. “Following the complaint, we have registered a case and are further investigating,” a police official attached to Panjagutta police station said.
According to media reports, the 25-year-old woman from Hyderabad has named student leaders, PA to politicians, lawyers, media professionals, businessmen, and others in her complaint. According to her report, three months after her marriage in June 2009, the abuse and assault by her husband and his family began. Though she got divorced in 2010, this ordeal continued for some time. She went on to pursue higher studies after her divorce but was allegedly threatened, abused and exploited by more people at different places.
Thereafter, she was allegedly raped and gang-raped around 5,000 times by several men, and was reportedly video graphed in objectionable positions to be used as pornographic content, the woman said. She has reported several such deplorable acts in the FIR, including alleged abuse in the name of caste. She was allegedly drugged, burnt with cigarettes and made to dance nude, the FIR states.
The police said that due to fear and panic and threats from the accused, the woman said that there was a delay from her side in filing the police complaint. She also noted, “They run an online sex racket. Many girls are victims of their heinous acts like me.” Police personnel investigating the matter told The Print the investigation is not yet complete but seemed to be part of a larger racket. “She remembers everything and is mentally fit,” a senior police officer said.
