Girl delivers baby watching YouTube videos: A 17-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and impregnated by her lover, delivered a baby at her home in the Malappuram district of Kerala with help of tips she got from watching YouTube videos. The girl's lover, who is also her neighbour, was arrested by Kottakkal Police on October 27, Wednesday.

The mother and the child are currently under treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital in Manjeri. Whereas the 21-year-old man, who has been accused of rape, was arrested under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 376, which deals with rape, of the Indian Penal Code.
The survivor and the alleged accused were in a relationship for a long time and the families had decided to tie the knot too after the survivor reached the legal age for marriage, 18 years.
The police are treating this case as alleged rape since she was underage and arrested the accused on the basis of the statements given by the survivor. According to the police, upon finding out that the minor was pregnant, the accused had suggested that she deliver the baby by watching YouTube tutorial videos on the same.
According to the police, the incident was reported from an area under Kottakkal Police Station. The survivor watched a video on YouTube at her home on October 20. While watching the video she delivered the baby and even cut the umbilical cord. As per the initial investigation by the police, the girl received no external help during the process and after.
For the next two days, no one came to know about the incident or the fact that there was a newborn baby in the house. According to news reports, in those two days, she developed infections. Only on October 22, the mother of the survivor found out after she heard the cries of the baby.
The Malappuram District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Chairman, Advocate Shajesh Bhasker expressed surprise as to how did the parents did not know about the pregnancy or even for two days after delivery.

The survivor is a Class 12 student who has two siblings- the elder one is married and the younger one stays at an orphanage--and had managed to hide the pregnancy from her father, who works as a watchman with the night shift and her 50-year-old mother, who is specially abled.
