A 24-year-old  Nagpur woman performs self-abortion to deliver a stillborn baby. She followed the steps shown in a YouTube video.

The woman claimed it was her lover who pushed her to abort the baby. The accused man works as a driver and is already married, and has a son.

Here is what we know about the case so far.
  1. She used household items to carry out sensitive medical procedure. Her foetus was seven-month-old and after she aborted it, her lover allegedly buried it in Taj Nagar burial ground. 
  2. She has now accused the lover of raping her more than 50 times since 2016.
  3. The accused identified as, Sohail Wahab Khan, was arrested by Yashodhara Nagar police station on September 23 on charges of rape.
  4. The accused had reportedly asked the survivor to follow steps shown in a YouTube video to abort the baby after they figured out she is ">pregnant
  5. She took the life-threatening step when her family was not at home. She even cut the umbilical cord using household items.
  6. When her family learned about the incident they decided to file a complaint against Khan with the police. 
  7. In her statement, the survivor alleged that she was raped by the man, who works as a driver. He also made false promises to marry her. The survivor also alleged that the accused used to spike and take sexual advantage.
  8. According to Sanjay Jadhav, senior inspector of Yashodhanagar police station, the survivor’s family felt that the accused had ditched her with false promises “as he was already a family man with a child and did not have enough family income.” 
  9. The accused has been married twice. He divorced his first wife and has a son with the second one.
  10. A forensics team from the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital has now been directed to retrieve remains of the foetus from Taj Nagar burial ground, however, there has been no success so far.
