The incident of a baby delivered using flashlights and candles in Odisha has surprised the internet. Due to an abrupt power cut and absence of backup facilities in the Polsara Health Centre of Ganjam district mid-delivery, the baby was birthed using phone torches and candles.

The family of the new mother was reportedly displeased with the hospital's administration and things escalated.

Reports suggested that the light went out at the hospital due to an untimely power cut during the delivery of the woman. Due to the lack of inverters or other backup facilities, the doctors were forced to treat the patient and birth the newborn baby using a cellphone torch. The patients' family members have expressed their displeasure against the hospital administration, for its lack of facilities and care. A ">video of the same has gone viral on various social media platforms, and netizens are shocked by the incident.

Dr Pranjya Pratham from the Ganjam'a health centre talked about the incident and stated, "We were left with no option but to treat the patient under the cellphone torch as we do not have a generator in the CHC, We referred the newborn baby to Berhampur Medical for better treatment. But the family members of the lady requested us to continue the treatment here. We had to treat both the mother and the newborn within the limited healthcare facilities at the CHC.”

Recently, on April 8, 2022, a woman went into labour in Anand Vihar Metro Station, in Delhi NCR and the baby was delivered on a metro platform. The delivery of a baby boy at the platform of the station was handled by the Central Industrial Security Force woman personnel in charge, Anamika Kumari. The mother and the newborn baby were then taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Time and again babies have been delivered in the most extreme situations, and this recent incident, which reminds us of a scene from a Bollywood movie, 3 idiots, has definitely taken the internet by surprise.
