Babita Phogat Extends Support To Kangana Ranaut, Asks ‘Why Is Award Wapsi Gang Of Bollywood Silent?’
Champion wrestler and BJP leader Babita Phogat came out in support of Kangana Ranaut, whose office in Mumbai was partially demolished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday. BMC officials had cited”structural violations” as the reason for their move. In a video that she shared on Twitter, the wrestler has slammed the Maharashtra government.
A Commonwealth Games medallist, Babita Phogat shared a video on Twitter and said, “The way the Uddhav Thackeray government demolished Kangana’s office, it is clear that they are flustered.”
Phogat asked people to show support to Ranaut, else no other woman will ever be able to speak up. She said, “Their disgusting mentality is being seen by the entire country. Do they think they can scare Kangana with this and silence her? If yes, then they are mistaken, because Kangana is not one to get scared. The entire country is standing with her. I want to appeal to my fellow countrymen to not let our sister’s strength and courage weaken, otherwise, in the future, no sister will have the courage to speak up.”

Further calling out Bollywood celebrities, the Olympian wrestler said, “I don’t understand one thing. So much happened in Mumbai but why is the ‘candle gang’ and award wapsi gang of Bollywood silent? Can they not see what is happening? Why are they so quiet? The entire country is witnessing the disgusting mentality of the Uddhav Thackeray government and they will soon give a befitting reply.”
She referred to the events that took place in 2015 when many actors and poets decided to return their Sahitya Akademi Award in taking a stand against increasing communal violence in the country and how the government was handling it.
Babita Phogat, who won India’s first wrestling medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, joined BJP in 2019. She is the daughter of Mahavir Phogat, a noted wrestling coach. His journey inspired the 2016 Bollywood blockbuster Dangal starring Aamir Khan.
She worked as Sub-Inspector in the Haryana Police before putting in her papers to join the BJP and to contest the 2019 Assembly polls from the Dadri constituency. The 29-year-old is a three-time Commonwealth gold and silver medallist. She had clinched a silver medal at the 2010 Delhi CWG in the 51 kg weight class. She bagged a gold medal in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games in the 55 kg weight class. She had also launched a wrestling academy in Bengaluru, for girls who want to follow in her footsteps.
