As per a report by PTI, the authorities have denied that she took poison at the police station. However, they suspended the police station SHO for negligence and lodged a rape case on Saturday.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav demanded the strictest action against the assailants and said the incident is an example of the BJP government's law and order. The woman was allegedly raped recently. According to her husband, an accused named Anil raped his wife. He also claimed that the police have so far failed to take any action in the case. Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar Singh denied the husband's claims that the survivor died after taking poison at the police station.

The SP said that SHO Chunna Singh has been suspended on charges of negligence and a complaint of rape has been registered. The survivor's family reportedly alleged that they appealed to police many times for justice but they did not take any action. The woman had gone to the police station on October 9, Saturday and took poison.

As per reports, the woman was rushed to a hospital but she was declared brought dead. Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, as per the police official.

The member of parliament from Azamgarh and chief of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav condemned the BJP government for the alleged inaction of police. In a tweet, he wrote, "In Azamgarh, hurt over lack of action against the accused of rape, a woman committed suicide in a police station--very sad!"

"This incident is a slap on the face of the BJP government, which makes tall claims of giving justice to the common man. The government should take the strictest action against the guilty police officers and the accused," Akhilesh Yadav added.
