Anu Kunjumon's Story
In a recent interview with the news agency Press Trust of India, 37-year-old Anu Kunjumon shared how she became a bouncer for high-profile celebrities. Due to familial struggles, she had to take responsibility for her family from a young age, which motivated her to join a profession where she could assert confidence and stand her own ground.
“I am a person who grew up fighting all kinds of challenges in my life. I had to strive to look after my mother and sister and to live a dignified life in society. But I overcame everything with my mental strength,” she told PTI.
Kunjumon first started her career as an entertainment media professional, photographing film promotional events and celebrity gatherings. During one such assignment, she had an altercation with a male bouncer. During this experience, her innate resilience and fearless nature made her realise she was capable of joining the field herself.
Kunjumon pondered why women were not hired for security roles. Determined to be a trailblazer, she set out on a new path, leading the way for many more aspiring female bouncers. She said that although she has not faced any blatant discrimination, women still have a long way to go. One major challenge for most women is the lack of formal training.
Kunjumon has worked across many events, from celebrity parties to high-energy pubs. According to PTI, many more female bouncers are making their mark in this male-dominated profession. Kunjumon believes that all it takes is strong willpower, mental strength, and physical fitness to excel as a bouncer.
