acid attack

On Tuesday morning (20 March), a 23-year-old woman travelling by an auto in Ghaziabad was severely injured after two bike-borne men threw acid on her face. She is currently admitted to the Burns ICU of Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. According to the doctors, her condition is critical and she has sustained several burns on her face and upper body. Five co-passengers were also injured in the incident.

The woman’s family claims that this is a deliberate act committed on the directions of a 25-year-old woman friend of hers. The woman friend is from Kondli. The two used to be good friends earlier, but their friendship soured and she has been stalking their daughter ever since, the family claims. An FIR under Section 326A has been filed against the woman and the two men.

“She is the same age as my daughter. They were friends earlier but my daughter snapped communication and she had been pressuring her to resume communication. We also lodged several complaints against her at Sahibabad police station and also at New Kondli police station, where she lives. She issued threats and followed my daughter regularly,” the victim’s father said, as reported in HT.

Police probing motive

The women were colleagues at a firm for a year where they became close friends.

“The Kondli woman and the victim had been spending a lot of time together and talked for hours on the phone during the one year when they worked together in Noida. This had miffed the family members of the injured woman. The Kondli woman had been following and harassing her for the past few months after she began keeping a distance from her,” Sahibabad police station SHO Rakesh Singh said, as reported by TOI. Police are trying to find out the actual motive behind the act.
