The spate of rape of minor girls shows no signs of abating. On May 6, a 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in Saharanpur, UP, reported TOI. Police said the accused is the son of the landlord of the house the rape survivor’s family has rented.
Threatened girl with dire consequences
On May 5, the girl's father lodged a complaint against Kunal Singh, 22, accusing him of
raping his daughter. According to the father, the accused had been taking his daughter to his room or bathroom to have oral sex with her.
Janakpuri police station SHO Satendra Sharma told TOI, “The family resides on the first floor of the building, while the accused lives on the ground floor. On Saturday, when the victim’s mother saw the accused taking her daughter inside the bathroom, she raised an alarm. Following which neighbours gathered and thrashed the accused.”
However, he managed to flee the scene.
Police said the accused had
threatened the girl that he would kill her and her parents if she revealed the abuse.
The SHO said that the FIR under sections 376 (rape) of IPC and the POCSO Act was registered after the victim’s father filed a complaint. Raids were conducted throughout the night to trace Singh's whereabouts. He was finally arrested from a relative’s house on Sunday.
Jharkhand horror
In another heinous incident, a 16-year-old girl was gangraped recently in Jharkhand before being burnt alive by the same men. The crime took place in Chatra district of the state, considered to be a Naxal-dominated region. A case was filed against all the accused. As per reports, 14 people have been arrested for their involvement in the case.
