In yet another incident of harassment, while using a cab service, a 19-year-old girl allegedly jumped off the car when the driver tried to get over-friendly with her. The girl told the police that she was returning to her home in Kapashera from Mandi House in a cab that she had booked from a cab aggregator’s app. The driver asked for her number after which she jumped off from the vehicle near southwest Delhi’s Cantonment area where she reported the incident.
The girl works with a theatre group in Mandi House and after her day’s work, she resorted to booking a cab to leave for her house. As per PTI reports the driver allegedly asked for her phone number and wanted to befriend her. The girl felt uncomfortable with the driver’s gesture and as soon as the cab reached Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan bus stop, she hopped out of the vehicle to save herself. A police investigation is going on and the accused is still running free.
Many such incidents where women have faced violence at the hand of their cab drivers have come to the fore in the recent times. Uber drivers have proved to be serious offenders but Ola drivers cannot be given a clean chit either. Cases of rape, molestation etc. are becoming common incidents for women travelling in private cabs. Both the cab aggregator giants are facing criticism for not conducting proper identity checks of their drivers.
Reports say that the driver allegedly asked for her phone number and wanted to befriend her. The girl felt uncomfortable with the driver’s gesture and as soon as cab reached Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan bus stop, she hopped out of the vehicle to save herself.
In another similar case, on April 15 in central Delhi, a woman reported to the police that her cab driver while ferrying her was also masturbating. She had booked a cab from the airport and a few minutes into her ride, she saw her driver masturbating at the wheel. When they reached near Janpath, she asked the cab to stop near a police vehicle. He tried to flee from the spot but the police caught him and they found that he was driving on a fake driving license.
